TV: ESPN

Angelique Kerber and Belinda Bencic meet in the fourth round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Angelique Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Naomi Osaka that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Kerber won 80 percent of her first serve points and 67 percent of her second serve points. Kerber won 76 percent of her total service points and had 23 winners compared to just five unforced errors. Kerber play pretty much a flawless match, as she didn’t face a single break point and even won 10 of 15 second serve points. While it’s still early, Kerber is playing right now like the player who won two grand slam titles in 2016. Kerber hopes to make the quarterfinal of a grand slam for the fifth time in her last nine appearances. Kerber has a shot at her fourth career Wimbledon quarterfinal. Kerber has won six of her last seven matches on grass court.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Belinda Bencic is coming off a straight sets win over Carla Suarez Navarro that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Bencic won 60 percent of her first serve points and 57 percent of her second serve points. Bencic won 59 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 10 break chances. It wasn’t the cleanest match in the world for either player, but Bencic found a way to grind it out and won an incredible 56 percent of her return points. Bencic must improve her serve in order to make a deeper run, but her return skills have been some of the best in the entire tournament and should have the German on notice. Bencic has a chance to make her second career grand slam quarterfinal and first since the 2014 US Open. Bencic has won four of her last five matches on grass court.

These two have played four times and Bencic has won all four matches in straight sets. The most recent match was in the 2016 Germany against Switzerland, a match Bencic won in 22 games. This will be the first match between these two on grass.

You can’t ignore the way Bencic has played up to this point and the head to head numbers are impressive when you consider just how young the Swiss was in past meetings. Beating Kerber four times in four tries is impressive no matter how you slice it, it’s even more staggering when it happened as a teenager.

With that said, I can’t bet against Kerber in this match. When Bencic is playing at her best, she’s capable of one or two upsets. When Kerber is playing at her best, she’s the best player in the world and can pile up grand slam titles.
