Donna Vekic is coming off a straight sets win over Yanina Wickmayer that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Vekic won 92 percent of her first serve points and 41 percent of her second serve points. Vekic lost just three of 36 first serve points and had 27 winners to just 12 unforced errors. Vekic has been very clean this tournament and has now won eight of her last 10 sets played. As long as Vekic continues to keep the ball in play, she’s going to be fine moving forward. Vekic hopes to make her first ever grand slam quarterfinal, as she previously never made a grand slam fourth round before this match. Vekic has won four of her last five matches on grass court.

These two have played once, which was in the 2017 Hungarian Ladies Open, a match Gorges won in straight sets. The match took 16 games to be decided.

Neither of these players have been in this position before, so the winner will likely be the person who makes the fewest unforced errors and does a better job of controlling nerves. Vekic has probably been the better player up to this point, but Goerges has been able to show a fighting spirit and finds ways to win even when she’s not playing great. Goerges has also been in the fourth round of a grand slam five times, so she’s the more experienced on big stages, which comes into play the deeper you get into a tournament.

Goerges reaches her first grand slam quarterfinal.
