Novak Djokovic and Karen Khachanov meet in the fourth round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic is coming off a four sets win over Kyle Edmund that took 37 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 82 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 75 percent of his total service points and produced 41 winners and just 15 unforced errors. Djokovic got off to a slow start by losing the first set, but he was able to find another gear and look like the Djokovic of old in the final two sets, taking the crowd out of it rather quickly. The last couple of months, it’s quite clear Djokovic is as close to being the player he was a couple of years ago, which is bad news for the rest of the field. Djokovic has a chance to make a grand slam quarterfinal for the 31st time in his last 34 appearances. Djokovic has been bounced before the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon just once since 2009. Djokovic has won seven of his last eight matches on grass court.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Karen Khachanov is coming off a five sets win over Frances Tiafoe that took 48 games to decide. In the victory, Khachanov won 81 percent of his first serve points and 47 percent of his second serve points. Khachanov showed great fight and spirit in his third round victory, as he managed to win despite dropping the first two sets. Khachanov took the heart out of the American in the fifth set by winning 65 percent of his service points and not giving a single break chance. While the win was impressive, you have to question just how much Khachanov has left in the tank mentally or physically after such a comeback. Khachanov hopes to make his first ever grand slam quarterfinal appearance. Khachanov is 0-2 in previous fourth round grand slam matches. Khachanov has won five of his last six matches on grass court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Khachanov isn’t going to have the fresh legs needed to compete with Djokovic, if he had a chance to hang around in this match at all. Some would say you can’t say Djokovic is back until he wins a big tournament, but based on the shots he’s making, the ability to put opponents away and the confidence he shows on the court, he’s as close to being back as he’s been since the injuries. Few players can compete with Djokovic when he’s in this form.

Djokovic reaches another grand slam quarterfinal.
