Matteo Berrettini and Feliciano Lopez meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Swiss Open.

Matteo Berrettini is coming off a straight sets win over Andrey Rublev that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Berrettini won 74 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Berrettini won 68 percent of his total service points and saved both of his break chances to cruise in straight sets. Berrettini has been serving at a very high level this tournament and hasn’t been broken once in his last four sets played. Berrettini has had an up and down season and isn’t used to deep tournaments, so it’s going to be interesting to see if he can keep this up. Berrettini hasn’t won three matches in a single tournament since Irving in challenger play, which was back in mid-March. Berrettini has won three of his last four matches on clay court.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Feliciano Lopez is coming off a three sets win over Oriol Roca Batalla that took 33 games to decide. In the victory, Lopez won 76 percent of his first serve points and 70 percent of his second serve points. Lopez won 74 percent of his total service points and produced 14 aces. Lopez really had to work to beat a player ranked outside of the top-300, but he showed his shotmaking ability and dominated his serve when he needed to take his game to another level. You’d like to see Lopez get off to a quicker start, but his serve in his last match is good enough to win him this title if it continues. Lopez hasn’t won three matches in a single tournament since winning the Queen's Club Championships last year. Lopez has split his last six matches on clay court.

This will be the first match between these two players.

Neither of these players have made many deep tournament runs lately, so this is close to a toss up for me. Form has been shaky on both sides. However, Lopez was lights out with his serve when needed and he’s the more comfortable player on clay due to his doubles experience and ability to make plays at the net.

I’ll side with Lopez to win this match in straight sets.
