Sofia Kenin and Johanna Konta meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Stanford Classic.

Sofia Kenin is coming off a straight sets win over Veronica Cepede Royg that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Kenin won 61 percent of her first serve points and 57 percent of her second serve points. Kenin won 60 percent of her total service points and broke on four of her eight break chances. Kenin is a 19-year-old American who is slowly starting to tap into her potential and is climbing rather quickly in the rankings. Coming fresh off an ITF title and currently inside the top-70 for the first time in her young career, Kenin is gaining confidence and becoming a player you should be keeping an eye on moving froward. Kenin is quietly finding herself as a player and will continue to be a threat if her return ability holds up. Kenin has won six straight matches on hard court.

Sofia Kenin vs. Johanna Konta 2018 Stanford Classic Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Johanna Konta is coming off a straight sets win over Serena Williams that took 13 games to decide. In the victory, Konta won 83 percent of her first serve points and 46 percent of her second serve points. Konta won 70 percent of her total service points and ended up producing six breaks on eight chances. It was easily one of the more complete performances we’ve seen from Konta this year, and it comes at the right time considering she’s lost three of her last seven matches heading into this tournament. Konta has a chance to make a really deep run in this tournament if she can bottle that performance and be so flawless with her serve. In the victory, Konta got 65 percent of her first serves in play, which is a winning formula for the 27-year-old. Konta has split her last six matches on hard court.

This will be the first meeting between these two players.

Kenin is a player to keep an eye on and more than capable of winning this match if she continues to return well. However, it’s tough to bet against Konta with the way she just abused Serena. Konta had everything working in her last match, and while she may not be as clean for a second straight match, she will be just fine as long as she gets her first serve in play.

I like Konta to win this match in two competitive sets.
