Martin Klizan and Jaume Munar meet in the semifinals of the 2018 tennis Austrian Open.

Martin Klizan is coming off a three sets win over Dusan Lajovic that took 31 games to decide. In the victory, Klizan won 67 percent of his first serve points and 71 percent of his second serve points. Klizan won 68 percent of his total service points and 35 percent of his return points. It was easily one Klizan’s biggest victories in the last couple of years, and when you add that to his upset win over Dominic Thiem, you could make an argument that he should now be the favorite to win this tournament. Klizan has now won eight of his last 10 sets when you throw in qualifying play, so the 29-year-old is certainly playing with some confidence at the moment. Klizan has a chance to make his sixth career final appearance and the first since the 2016 German Open. Klizan has won five of his last seven matches on clay court.

Martin Klizan vs. Jaume Munar 2018 Austrian Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Jaume Munar is coming off a straight sets win over Taro Daniel that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Munar won 78 percent of his first serve points and 46 percent of his second serve points. Munar won 62 percent of his total service points and 44 percent of his return points. You’d still like to see Munar get a higher percentage of his first serves in play, but he has done well with his return and has lost just one set in his last three matches. Throw in Munar’s challenger title in Italy, and he’s playing some of his most consistent tennis in quite some time. Munar has a chance to reach his first career ATP final appearance. Munar has won six of his last nine matches on clay court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Klizan has knocked out two of the better players in this draw in back to back matches and has been the much better server between these two guys. Munar isn’t going to win another match if he can’t get 60 percent or higher of his first serves in play. It’s really that simple.

Klizan makes his first final appearance in two years.
