Aryna Sabalenka vs. Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki and Aryna Sabalenka meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Rogers Cup.

Caroline Wozniacki hasn’t played since getting bounced in the second round of the Wimbledon and hopes to build some momentum before the US Open. Wozniacki has been consistent this season, which includes winning 11 of her last 14 matches, but she struggled mightily with her second serve in her last match, giving her opponent 14 break points. Inconsistent serving has been an issue for Wozniacki as of late, even when she won the title in Eastbourne. Maybe the time off to clear her head and rest her body will be good for Wozniacki, as she makes this final run leading into what is her favorite grand slam of the year. Wozniacki has split her last six matches on hard court.

Caroline Wozniacki vs. Aryna Sabalenka 2018 Rogers Cup Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a three sets win over Ana Bogdan that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 73 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka won 67 percent of her total service points and managed to break on four of her 11 break chances. Sabalenka lost just nine of 47 first serve points, a percentage that gives her a fair shot to win this match if she can repeat such efforts. Still, Sabalenka has lost seven of her last 11 sets, so she still has some proving to do that she can put together back-to-back solid performances. Sabalenka has one career win over a top-10 player. Sabalenka has won four of her last seven matches on hard court.

These two have played once, which was in Eastbourne of this year, a match Wozniacki won in straight sets. The match took 24 games to be decided.

Wozniacki just beat Sabalenka without much effort and has a serious rest advantage. Her return will be key, especially against Sabalenka’s sometimes shaky second serve. On hard court where the pace usually favors Wozniacki, this is a match she should win yet again.

I’ll take Wozniacki in straight sets.
