Anastasija Sevastova is coming off a straight sets win over Julia Gorges that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Sevastova won 72 percent of her first serve points and 50 percent of her second serve points. Sevastova won 65 percent of her first serve points and had six aces in her victory. Sevastova is easily playing some of her most consistent tennis in quite some time, as she’s now won 10 of her last 11 matches overall and 19 of her last 24 sets played. As long as Sevastova continues to win a high percentage of her service points, she’s going to be a handful. It’s when the unforced errors and double faults come in where Sevastova can struggle. Sevastova has five career wins over top-10 players with two of those wins coming last year. Sevastova has won six of her last eight matches on hard court.
These two have players have split the two previous matches, as Stephens won in the the 2017 US Open and Sevastova won in the 2017 WTA Elite Trophy.
Sevastova is as hot as any player left in the draw, so she can’t be overlooked in this match. However, Stephens has been a different player all year on hard court and seems to have found her form again in this tournament. The power and aggressiveness of the American should give her the victory here.
Stephens reaches the semifinals.
