Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep meet in the semifinals of the 2018 tennis Rogers Open.
Ashleigh Barty is coming off a straight sets win over Kiki Bertens that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Barty won 80 percent of her first serve points and 72 percent of her second serve points. Barty won 77 percent of her total service points and didn’t face a single break point in her quarterfinal victory. Barty has now own 12 of her last 15 sets, and her most recent performance was probably the most complete we’ve seen from her. Barty has always had the potential to be a consistent title threat, and we may be seeing it in full force given this tournament and what she recently did in Nottingham. Barty hopes to make her third final appearance of the season and the sixth final appearance of her career. Barty have won six of her last seven matches on hard court.

Simona Halep is coming off a straight sets win over Caroline Garcia that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Halep won 77 percent of her first serve points and 54 percent of her second serve points. Halep won 67 percent of her total service points and was broken just once. Halep continues to play some of her best tennis of her life, which has a lot to do with staying mentally strong and not giving away points. If this continues, Halep is going to pile up final appearances and titles. Halep has a chance to make her fifth final appearance of the year and her 32nd final appearance of her career. Halep also has a shot to make the final in three of her last four Rogers Cup appearances. Halep has won six of his last eight matches on hard court.
This will be the first ever match between these two players.
Barty is a respectable opponent who has the ability to win a match of this caliber when she’s really hitting the ball with confidence. The problem has been consistency and the level of play that drops once her confidence drops. There’s also the fact Halep is in a zone like none other, and there’s no betting against her in her current form. Halep isn’t just playing well, but her attitude has improved, which no longer provides that opening for her opponents.
Halep makes another Rogers Cup final.
