Jack Sock vs. Hyeon Chung 2018 Cincinnati Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Hyeon Chung vs. Jack Sock

August 2018

The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

Jack Sock and Hyeon Chung meet in the first round of the tennis Cincinnati Open.

Jack Sock is in desperate need for anything positive, as he enters this tournament on a eve-match losing streak. Sock hasn’t won a match since Italy and hasn’t won back-to-back matches since London in November. Sock has simply fallen off a cliff to put it kindly, and I’m not sure how he’s going to snap out of this funk given the fact he can get a bit hard on himself in matches. Sock did force three sets in his last performance, but he had six double faults and won just 36 percent of his return points. To make matters worse, Sock has lost in the first round of the Cincinnati Open in three of his four career appearances. Maybe the American crowd getting behind him will help Sock turn this brutal season around. Sock has split his last six matches on hard court.

Hyeon Chung could also use a pick me up victory, as he’s split his last 10 matches and has really struggled to find that form that put him in the semifinals of the French Open. Chung is coming off a three set loss in which he won just 53 percent of his total service points and was broken six times. When dialed in and hitting the ball with confidence, Chung has proven he’s one of the top young players in the world and capable of beating anybody on any surface. The issue for the 22-year-old is finding that consistency. Chung has lost his only match in the Cincinnati Open, which was in straight sets last year against Feliciano Lopez. Chung has won eight of his last 12 matches on hard court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Chung is one of my favorite young players to bet on, as the kid has the goods to compete for majors once he builds his consistency and confidence to a certain level. Sock is simply unbackable in his current form, and while he’s not nearly as bad as this current stretch suggests, I can’t bet on a guy who has lost seven straight matches.

Give me Chung to get the victory.
