Caroline Wozniacki and Kiki Bertens meet in the second round of the tennis Cincinnati Open.

Caroline Wozniacki heads into this tournament losing her last two matches, which includes a tough three set loss in Montreal. In the losing effort, Wozniacki was broken four times and had seven double faults. At times Wozniacki has looked like the best version of herself, which includes titles in Eastbourne and her first major in the Australian Open, other times she’s looked uninspired and not confident in her shotmaking ability. At this point it’s a question of which Wozniacki you’re going to get, but the good news is that she’s made consistent deep runs in recent Premier 5 tournaments. Wozniacki has lost three straight matches on hard court.

Caroline Wozniacki vs. Kiki Bertens 2018 Cincinnati Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

Kiki Bertens is coming off a straight sets win over Coco Vandeweghe that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Bertens won 90 percent of her first serve points and 77 percent of her second serve points. Bertens won 85 percent of her total service points and ended up winning each of the last seven games in the match. It was easily one of the more impressive victories for Bertens in recent memory, and she now has a chance to win at least two matches in a single tournament for the third straight try. Bertens has a chance to make it out of the second round in Cincinnati for the first time in her career. Bertens has won four of her last five matches on hard court.

Wozniacki has won three of the four meetings against Bertens, and all four matches were decided in straight sets. The most recent match was in this years Madrid Masters, a match Bertens won in 16 games.

I’m not confident Bertens is capable of following up her recent victory with the same effectiveness. Bertens has been solid recently, but she’s a more than beatable player against some of the top tier, and Wozniacki is one of those players who has had her number. As long as Wozniacki is engaged and being aggressive with her return, she should be fine.

Wozniacki reaches the third round.
