German superstar, Angelique Kerber will look to start her WTA Cincinnati Masters campaign in style as she takes on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russia. The former world number 1 will play her first match in the second round after getting an opening round bye. This will be a great chance for both players to get some form before the US Open so we should expect both players to play good tennis. This should ensure we are able to witness a great tennis match.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova looked good in her opening round match which she won in straight sets. The Russian was dominant and looked like she was hitting the ball very cleanly. It is fair to say that Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has been unlucky with the draws lately as she drew Simona Halep in the second round of the Rogers Cup and now has drawn Angelique Kerber in the second round of this tournament. The Russian is a great player but she will need to be better than her best if she wishes to beat a player of the level of her opponent.

Her opponent, Angelique Kerber has been in amazing form having won Wimbledon a few weeks ago. The German was hitting the ball very well and looked like she was playing the best tennis of her career. Her win over Serena Williams showed her class and that is something she will look to bring to this tournament. Angelique Kerber has not played much hard court tennis having only played one match at the Rogers Cup. This tournament will be important for the German so she can gain some hard court time as she prepares for the US Open. This is a match that Angelique Kerber will feel she can win easily because she is a much more accomplished player.
I think that Angelique Kerber will win. She is the better player and I think she will know how important this tournament is considering her lack of court time in North America. I don’t think that Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will cause Angelique Kerber much trouble as I expect the German to win in straight sets.
