Number 5 seed, Grigor Dimitrov will return to Cincinnati with the desire to defend his crown. The Bulgarian superstar won the Cincinnati Masters in 2017 and he will hope that he can repeat that feat in 2018. Grigor Dimitrov will begin his campaign in the second round after getting a bye due to his high seeding. His first match of the tournament will be against Mischa Zverev from Germany. Both these players are greatly experienced and skilled so that will ensure that get a great tennis match.
Mischa Zverev is the older brother of Alexander Zverev and has been on the ATP tour for an age. That being said, Mischa is a more accomplished doubles player and has not been at the same level as singles. He did look good in his opening round win but this will be a completely different challenge as he will be playing a top player. It's never wise to write off a player but I think it will be very hard for Mischa Zverev to compete with Dimitrov, especially considering the amount of singles tennis the German has played.
Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports
Grigor Dimitrov has played some solid tennis over the past few years and has now established himself as one of the best players in the world. That being said, the Bulgarian has not been at his best in 2018 and that is something that will be of great concern. He will hope that returning to Cincinnati can be a boost as he will be desperate to regain some form. Grigor Dimitrov is a very hit and miss kind of player and when he is hot, he can beat anyone in the world. With the US Open approaching, Grigor Dimitrov will look to be playing at his best and getting some wins in this tournament will be a great opportunity for the Bulgarian to regain his form. This is not the easiest draw but Grigor Dimitrov will be confident that he can make it into the next round without too many issues.
In regards to my prediction, I am going to suggest that we pick Grigor Dimitrov to win. The Bulgarian is the better player and I think he will be good enough to win at a venue where he has done very well in the past.
