Stan Wawrinka is coming off a straight sets win over Kei Nishikori that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Wawrinka won 81 percent of his first serve points and 62 percent of his second serve points. Wawrinka won 72 percent of his total service point and produced three breaks on 10 break points. Now that the hard court season has started, Wawrinka is finally showing signs of returning to form. It’s even scarier for the competition, as Wawrinka is a player who tends to get better the longer a tournament continues. Wawrinka has to like where he’s at currently in his recovery. Wawrinka has a chance to make his second ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal since last year. Wawrinka has won four of his last five matches on hard court.
These two have split the previous two meetings, as Fucsovics won this years Geneva Open and Wawrinka won this years Canadian Masters.
I’m still not sold 100 percent that Wawrinka is back to being his normal self, but he’s put together some impressive matches the last couple of weeks and is serving well. As long as that continues and the rust comes off his shotmaking ability, Wawrinka should win this match. Fucsovics is wet behind the ears in big matches and can struggle at times with his second serve.
Wawrinka wins in two competitive sets.
