August 2018

TV: ESPN 2

Robin Haase and Pablo Carreno Busta meet in the third round of the tennis Cincinnati Open.

Robin Haase is coming off a three sets win over Alexander Zverev that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Haase won 70 percent of his first serve points and 46 percent of his second serve points. Haase won 58 percent of his total service points and produced six breaks on seven break points. Haase obviously has to be better with his serve, but his return has been aggressive, and he’s produced 12 breaks in his last two matches. That alone makes Haase a dangerous player, even if his matches are so up and down recently. Haase has a chance to make a quarterfinal of a ATP World Tour Masters 1000 for the fourth time in his career. Haase has won five of his last six matches on hard court.

Robin Haase vs. Pablo Carreno Busta 2018 Cincinnati Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Pablo Carreno Busta is coming off a straight sets win over Bradley Klahn that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Carreno Busta won 76 percent of his first serve points and 61 percent of his second serve points. Carreno Busta won 70 percent of his total service points and saved both of his break points. Carreno Busta got 64 percent of his first serves in play, and if he can come close to that number again, good things are going to happen for him. Carreno Busta has a chance to win three matches in a single tournament for the first time since Rome. Carreno Busta has a chance to make a quarterfinal of a ATP World Tour Masters 1000 for the fourth time in his career. Carreno Busta has won three of his last four matches on hard court.

These two have played twice and Carreno Busta won both matches. The most recent match was in Gstaad in 2015, a match that was decided in 23 games. This will be the first meeting on hard court.

Haase continues to struggle with his second serve, and you can only get away with that for so long. Carreno Busta is coming off one of his better serving games in quite some time and has been the more consistent player of the two recently. I just don’t trust Haase much in a tight match when holding serve will be key down the stretch.

I like Carreno Busta to reach the quarterfinals.
