Russian tennis player, Ekaterina Makarova is turning back the years as she makes this run in the WTA Cincinnati Open. Makarova has made it to the third round of the tournament where she will play Ukrainian player, Lesia Tsurenko. This match will determine which player gets a spot in the quarterfinals of this tournament so we should expect both players to take this match very seriously.

Lesia Tsurenko has had a really strong tournament. The Ukrainian beat the number 7 seed, Garbiñe Muguruza, in the last round and that victory displayed the fighting spirit of the player. Tsurenko went one set down but fought back exceptionally well to eliminate one of the top players in the world. The hard courts in North America suit Lesia Tsurenko's game really well as she is very comfortable with the bounce and the pace. This can be seen in past performances as the Ukrainian won a WTA tournament in Mexico earlier this year. Confidence will be high for Lesia Tsurenko and she will look to use that in this big match.

Ekaterina Makarova vs Lesia Tsurenko 2018 Cincinnati Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Predictions

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Her opponent, Ekaterina Makarova, has had a poor season having been eliminated in the opening round of her last 2 tournaments. The Russian is a very skilled player and has tons of experience but her form has not been great over the past few months. Things have looked better in this tournament but it can be fair to say she has not been fully tested. This is a big opportunity for Ekaterina Makarova as a deep run will ensure she has some momentum heading into the US Open. That being said, this will be a very tough match since she is playing a player who is in great form.

Both players are very skilled but I am going to pick Lesia Tsurenko to win. She is a very strong hard court player and is in much better form than her opponent. These two factors should see her win a place in the quarterfinals.
