Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer meet in the final of the tennis Cincinnati Open.

Novak Djokovic is coming off a three sets win over Marin Cilic that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 72 percent of his first serve points and 43 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 61 percent of his total service points and managed to save nine of 12 break points. Djokovic can still improve his serve, especially his second serve, but he’s been sharp with his return and has produced a combined 11 breaks in his last three matches. Each of Djokovic’s last four matches have gone three sets, which means he’s still figuring things out in terms of being 100 percent. Djokovic has a chance to win his second title of the year and his 70th title of his career. Djokovic hopes to win his first Masters 1000 title since the 2016 Canadian Open. Djokovic is 0-5 in previous Cincinnati Open final appearances. Djokovic has won seven of his last eight matches on hard court.

Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over David Goffin that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Federer won 75 percent of his first serve points and 69 percent of his second serve points. Federer won 73 percent of his total service points and only had to play a little over an hour due to Goffin retiring. Federer has now won 21 of his last 25 full sets played and has won 16 of his last 18 matches. As long as Federer continues to serve at the level he’s been at for most of the year, he’s going to be just fine. When Federer wins 70-plus percent of his serves, he’s going to be damn near unbeatable. Federer hopes to win his fourth title of the year and his 99th tile of his career. Federer has a chance to win his fourth Masters 1000 title since 2017, and his eighth career title at the Cincinnati Open. Federer has won nine of his last 11 matches on hard court.

These two have played 45 times and Djokovic has won 23 of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2016 Australian Open, a match Djokovic won in four sets. Djokovic has won six of the last eight matches against Federer, and his last loss came in the 2015 ATP World Tour Finals.

What a final and a treat considering these two haven’t played in a while. I’m going with Federer. He’s been the more consistent player the last couple of years and makes it very tough to bet against. Federer has been serving out of his mind for the most part and isn’t giving away anything cheap. Djokovic looks as good as he’s been in about a year and a half, but he’s still not 100 percent Djokovic, as he gives opponents too many break points and can still struggle with unforced errors.

Federer will take advantage of that and win a very, very tight match.
