Taro Daniel is coming off a three sets win over Nicolas Jarry that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Daniel won 68 percent of his first serve points and 53 percent of his second serve points. Daniel won 62 percent of his total service points and saved eight of his 10 break points. Daniel could improve his second serve, but he’s been broken just twice in his last five sets, so he’s playing solid tennis overall. Daniel is simply finding a way to win all of the big points, which she showed by winning two tiebreakers in his previous match and dominating his last match after dropping the first set. Daniel has a chance to make his second final of the year and his second final appearance of his career. Daniel has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.
These two have played once in the past, which was in challenger play in 2016, a match Medvedev won in straight sets. The match took 21 games to be decided.
Medvedev has been the more consistent player in this tournament, as he has yet to drop a set and has been able to rely on a heavy serve that gives him a lot of free points. As well as Daniel has played, he gives his opponent too many looks at break points and an above-average player will take advantage of that.
Medvedev reaches the third final of his career.
