Aryna Sabalenka and Carla Suarez Navarro meet in the final of the 2018 tennis Connecticut Open.

Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a straight sets win over Julia Goerges that took 23 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 73 percent of her first serve points and 68 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka won 70 percent of her total service points and gave herself 13 break points. While just 20 years old, Sabalenka has emerged as one of the top young players in the sport and may just be scratching the surface. Sabalenka has won 10 of her last 12 matches on hard court.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Carla Suarez Navarro is coming off a victory over Monica Puig that took eight games to decide. The match was tied 4-4 before Puig was forced to retire. In the victory, Navarro won 65 percent of her first serve points and 50 percent of her second serve points. Navarro has had a hell of an easy time to reach the final, as she’s played a combined one complete set in her last three matches to get here. That’s a massive rest advantage for the 29-year-old Spaniard, as she hopes to win a rare title. Navarro has a chance to win her third career title and first since the Qatar Total Open in 2016. Navarro is 1-2 in career final appearances on hard court. Navarro has won six of her last eight matches on hard court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Navarro had to work far less in her semifinal victory, but I’m not sure that matters here. Sabalenka is enjoying her breakout season and is playing some of the most balanced tennis we’ve seen from anybody all season. Her serve, return and confidence are an all time high and it’s tough to bet against her right now. While it’s a small sample size in the grand scheme of things, Sabalenka is a player you can trust and somebody to watch moving forward.

Sabalenka wins her first career title.
