Petra Kvitova and Aryna Sabalenka meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis US Open.
Petra Kvitova is coming off a straight sets win over Yafan Wang that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Kvitova won 63 percent of her first serve points and 54 percent of her second serve points. Kvitova won 59 percent of her total service points and saved four of her six break points. Kvitova could do a better job with her serve, but her return has produced nine breaks in her last four sets. Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a straight sets win over Vera Zvonareva that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 73 percent of her first serve points and 57 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka won 68 percent of her total service points and hit 38 winners in the match that was a little under two hours. Sabalenka remains one of the hotter players in the draw and has won 14 of the last 16 sets she’s played. I said it in a previous article, but Sabalenka is a player to watch very closely, as the 20-year-old is growing up before our very eyes. Sabalenka has a chance to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. This is only Sabalenka’s fifth career grand slam appearance. Sabalenka has won 13 of her last 15 matches on hard court.
These two have played once, which was in this years Miami Open, a match Kvitova won in three sets. The match took 30 games to be decided.
Kvitova has the obvious experience edge and that’s key when you get deeper into the tournament. However, I’m not sure how anybody can bet against Sabalenka with any confidence. She’s simply on a tear right now and has both her serve and return working at a very high level. I’m not trying to step in front of Sabalenka at the moment.
Sabalenka stays hot and makes the fourth round of the US Open.
