Jessica Pegula and Ons Jabeur meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Coupe Banque Nationale.

Jessica Pegula is coming off a straight sets win over Kristyna Pliskova that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Pegula won 73 percent of her first serve points and 40 percent of her second serve points. Pegula won 60 percent of her total service points and converted on all three of her break points. Pegula is enjoying some of her most consistent tennis in quite some time, as she’s won 11 of her last 14 matches when you include qualifying play, and she’s fresh off a straight sets win over a top-100 player. Pegula can certainly be better with her second serve and should also look to clean up some of the unforced errors, but the young American has won 17 of her last 22 sets and has a real shot to make one of the deeper runs in her career on the main tour. Pegula has to like where she’s at right now given her struggles over the years. Pegula has won four of her last five matches on indoor hard court.

Jessica Pegula vs. Ons Jabeur 2018 Coupe Banque Nationale Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Ons Jabeur is coming off a straight sets win over Lucie Safarova that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Jabeur won 72 percent of her first serve points and 65 percent of her second serve points. Jabeur won won 69 percent of her total service points and saved eight of her 10 break points. Jabeur was hitting the ball with great pace and had one of her better serving performances in quite some time. The issue now for Jabeur is putting together some consistency and making a deep run on the main tour. Jabeur has now split her last eight matches and has struggled to put together back-to-back winning performances. This is a chance for the 24-year-old Jabeur to right the ship in a wide open draw. Jabeur has lost two of her last three matches on indoor hard court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Neither of these players have shown much consistency over the last few months, but I’m going to side with Jabeur to get the victory. Jabeur is coming off a solid serving performance and beat a quality player in Safarova. Pegula has put together a recent stretch of wins, but it wasn’t long ago when she couldn’t buy a victory due to brutally poor form.

If Jabeur can continue to hold serve the way she did in her last match, she’ll make a run for possibly winning this tournament.
