Hsieh Su-wei will be playing Amanda Anisimova in the final of the WTA Japan Open.
Amanda Anisimova will be playing her first WTA final. At the age of only 17, Amanda Anisimova is still very young and inexperienced on the WTA scene but she has managed to overcome that and perform extremely well in this tournament. Amanda Anisimova beat the top seed in the semifinals in straight sets and looked very dominant in that win. In that victory, Amanda Anisimova broke her opponents serve on 4 separate occasions which ensured she had many chances to win the match. That being said, there is scope for improvement when it comes to serving as Amanda Anisimova had her serve broken 3 times and while it didn’t cost her, it could become problematic if not improved. While Amanda Anisimova is only 17 and lacks experience, she will not be too fazed by the situation as she has played multiple finals on the junior tour including finals at the US Open and French Open.

On the other side of the court, Hsieh Su-wei will look to use her experience to her advantage. Su-wei has played many WTA events and has won a singles title in the past so she will be familiar with the experience. That being said, Hsieh Su-wei had a very poor semifinal match which she only won because her opponent was even worse. Hsieh Su-wei only won 60% of her service games and her first serve percentage was a disappointing 61%. A weak serve was exploited by Anisimova in her semifinal and if Hsieh Su-wei doesn’t improve, it could spell trouble.
These two players have met once in the past with Anisimova winning that match in straight sets. That match was a very dominant win for Amanda Anisimova as she only lost 1 game in the entire match.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Amanda Anisimova to win this match. Anisimova is in exceptional form and will be feeling confident since she is playing an opponent who she beat easily in the past. I see Anisimova winning her first WTA title.
