Aryna Sabalenka and Dominika Cibulkova meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Wuhan Open.
Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a straight sets win over Sofia Kenin that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 74 percent of her first serve points and 59 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka won 70 percent of her total service points and saved her only break point. Sabalenka has been broken just three times in her last five sets and is coming off a match in which she got 73 percent of her first serves in play. If this is the type of serving we’re going to get from Sabalenka the rest of the way, she has a chance to push for the title. Sabalenka has a chance to win four matches in a single tournament for the third time in her last five tries. Sabalenka has won six of her last seven matches on hard court.

Dominika Cibulkova is coming off a straight sets win over Daria Kasatkina that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Cibulkova won 51 percent of her first serve points and 48 percent of her second serve points. Cibulkova won 49 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 19 break points. Cibulkova tried her best to make it a match, as she was broken six times and had five double faults, but she controlled the second set tiebreak and has now won all six sets this tournament. However, Cibulkova better improve her serve this time around if she hopes to advance to the semifinals. Cibulkova has a chance to win four matches in a single tournament for the first time since the Wimbledon. Cibulkova has won six of her last seven matches on hard court.
This will be the first ever meeting between these two players.
Cibulkova has been playing some solid tennis on hard court and is bringing that feisty play to the court, but her serve in her last outing is worrisome. Sabalenka is not only coming off a dominating performance with her serve, but she won’t allow Cibulkova to hang in matches if she’s not playing at her best. Sabalenka is easily the more trustworthy player entering this match and makes a case to be the favorite in this tournament based on her current form.
I like Sabalenka to make the semifinals.
