Karen Khachanov and Juan-Martin Del Potro meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis China Open.
Karen Khachanov is coming off a straight sets win over Sam Querrey that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Khachanov won 89 percent of his first serve points and 41 percent of his second serve points. Khachanov won 71 percent of his total service points and saved two of his three break points. Khachanov has now won 11 of his last 15 matches and continues to put pressure on his opponent with his serve. As long as Khachanov can continue controlling what he can control, he’s going to be difficult to bounce from any tournament. Khachanov hopes to win two matches in a single tournament for the fourth time in his last five tries. Khachanov has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.

Juan-Martin Del Potro is coming off a straight sets win over Albert Ramos-Vinolas that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Del Potro won 86 percent of his first serve points and 25 percent of his second serve points. Del Potro won 70 percent of his total service points and saved three of his four break points. It was the first match for Del Potro since losing the US Open final, and he’s now won 19 of his last 23 sets. Del Potro continues to serve at a high level, and he’s coming off a match in which he had 10 aces and got 73 percent of his first serves in play. As long as that quality serving continues, Del Potro should be considered a favorite to win any tournament he enters. Del Potro has won nine of his last 11 matches on hard court.
These two have played twice and Del Potro has won both matches. The most recent meeting was in this years Australian Open, a match Del Potro won in four sets. Del Potro is 5-1 against Khachanov in sets played.
Khachanov is a live underdog based on how well he’s served as of late and the fact he’s put together an impressive winning stretch of his own. However, Del Potro is well rested and has been the hottest player on tour for the last few months. There’s really no reason to bet against Del Potro in his current form, unless he’s facing a Nadal or Djokovic at this point.
Del Potro wins another match.
