Cristian Garin meets Borna Coric in the semifinals of the 2020 Rio de Janeiro Open. Who will make it to the Final?
Cristian Garin came through a very hard-fought match against Federico Coria, coming back from a set down to win it in a tight third set. Garin has already won a title this season in Cordoba, but since then, his level has not been as good as it was. Of course Garin is more than capable of winning here in Rio, but I haven't seen him perform to the level I expected him to. Garin struggled a lot on his second serve in his quarterfinal match and he will have to drastically improve if he wants to make it to the Final.
Borna Coric was exceptional against Lorenzo Sonego in the quarterfinals. Coric beat Sonego 7-6/6-3 and did not give Sonego any opportunities as he saved 8 out of 8 break points. Coric is looking for a redemption season this year, and it is great to see him near his best. Coric has a lot of experience, having played on the tour for nearly 7 years now, and he will want to win the title here in Rio.
This will be the second meeting between both players, with Coric winning the only prior encounter. Coric has more experience, and although Garin won the title in Cordoba a few weeks ago, he has not looked as good as before. Coric will use his experience and his mentality to come out and book his spot in the Final.
Borna Coric to win.
