Gilles Simon vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime - 2020 Marseille Open Semi-Final

Saturday, February 22 2020

TV: ESPN (US); Amazon Prime (UK)

Felix Auger-Aliassime looks to make his second final in two weeks as he meets Gilles Simon in the semifinals of the 2020 Marseille Open. Will the Canadian or the Frenchman make it through?

Felix Auger-Aliassime was very confident against Egor Gerasimov, beating him in straight sets. Felix was very determined to book his spot in the semifinals, coming back from a break down in the first set and not letting go of the match after that. Felix has had a great start to 2020, making his second semifinal in a row, and aiming to make his second final in a row. Felix is young, fast and confident, these are dangerous traits for any opponent.

Gilles Simon absolutely dominated No.1 seed, Daniil Medvedev, beating the Russian 6-4/6-0. Medvedev was absolutely horrific in the match, although he started out well and was up an early break, Medvedev then just let go of the match and his bad attitude began to take over. Medvedev basically gifted Simon the match. Simon was great at remaining in incredibly long rallies and not giving up any easy points, however it is surely going to be a much tougher match in the semifinals and Simon will need to make sure he is prepared to play better.

This will be the second meeting between both players, with Felix Auger-Aliassime winning their first encounter. Felix is in better form than Medvedev at the moment and he will be a much tougher challenge to Simon. Simon won't be able to use the crowd to scare FAA as FAA has already beaten Pierre-Hughes Herbert who had the entire crowd behind him. I think the young gun shines.

Felix Auger-Aliassime to win.
