The Line: -- Over/Under:
Ekaterina Tuliakova and Iryna Shymanovich meet Sunday morning in an exhibition tennis match.
Ekaterina Tuliakova has two exhibition matches under her belt and she’s won both of them in straight sets. Tuliakova has lost three or less games in three of her four sets and her first match resulted in a comfortable victory over Sviatlana Pirazhenka. Other than that, there’s not a whole lot of information available for Tuliakova, so it’s hard to get a proper read on her game. However, Tuliakova has beaten two recognizable names in her first two matches, so she’s clearly a player to watch as long as these exhibitions continue.
Iryna Shymanovich is one of the few ranked players participating in these events, as she’s a 22-year-old from Belarus who has had success on the junior level and in ITF play. Shymanovich has 14 ITF titles on her resume when you include singles and doubles tournaments, and she was runner-up in the 2013 girls Wimbledon Championships. As for her current form, Shymanovich is 14-1 in exhibition matches and 10 of her last 11 victories have been decided in straight sets. It’s safe to say that Shymanovich is in great form and has been able to have terrific success against players with almost no known history on the tennis court.
These two played an exhibition match back on Thursday, a meeting Tuliakova won in straight sets. The match took 21 games to be decided, including a fist set tiebreak.
This is far from a clear cut match considering Tuliakova won the pervious meeting and did it in straight sets. Shymanovich has also played a ton of tennis over these last couple weeks, so there’s a concern for fatigue. Shymanovich is playing almost daily and that type of schedule even without actual match pressure can certainly take its toll. Still, Shymanovich is head and shoulders the more accomplished player and has far more matches to go off to give you more confidence on where to play your money. Other than two exhibition matches, there's almost zero information available on Tuliakova.
I’d side with Shymanovich in this match and back her to win in straight sets.
