Jay Clarke vs. Daniel Evans - Battle of the Brits
Tuesday, June 23 2020
Daniel Evans meets Jay Clarke in their first match at the Battle of the Brits. Which British star will shine here, will it be the underdog Jay Clarke, or the much more experienced Daniel Evans?
Daniel Evans has been superb for the last year or so on the tour. Daniel Evans is very excited to come back on the tour and the Battle of the Brits is the perfect way for him to get his momentum and form back. Evans is very strong, both on his serve, and on his forehand. He is extremely unpredictable and one of the most passionate players in the game. Daniel Evans will want to show us that he is to be feared amongst the British players on the tour, and he will come out here playing his best I am sure of it. It might take Evans a match or so to get the rust off, but once that's gone, he will be very dangerous.
Jay Clarke is a very young British player with a lot of potentials. Clarke has only played 8 matches on the ATP Tour, winning 2 and losing 6. This inexperience can play to his disadvantage but it can also play to his advantage. Jay Clarke has nothing to lose and he will use these matches here as learning opportunities to further his game. The young Brit will know that he can learn a lot here and it can help his career in the long run. Clarke will have nothing to lose and he will play freely here.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players and it is going to be a very interesting one. Jay Clarke has nothing to lose and therefore will be playing much better than he usually does, and Evans will be looking to get rid of the rust in his game in this first match. It might be a 3 setter, but it is hard to see the much more experienced Daniel Evans lose here. Evans will win this match, but Clarke will get some good minutes under his belt and learn a lot.
Daniel Evans to win.
