James Ward vs. Kyle Edmund - Battle of the Brits
Tuesday, June 23 2020
Its the Battle of the Brits as Kyle Edmund meets James Ward in what will be one of the most exciting encounters in a while. Will Edmund still be gaining momentum, or will the break have slowed down his chances of getting back to his former self?
Kyle Edmund will be extremely angered about the tennis break as the former British No.1 was finally getting his momentum and form back. Edmund used to be one of the most exciting young players to watch on the tour, but injury issues and inconsistency prevented him from achieving his goals. Edmund has an amazing serve, a superb forehand. However, this does not matter if he cannot maintain the necessary consistency to become one of the best tennis players. Edmund will want to get some solid minutes of competitive tennis under his belt before the start of the tour very soon, and this will be a perfect way to do so.
James Ward is a very experienced player in tennis, although not on the ATP Tour. Ward is 33 years old and has really passed his prime. However, Ward knows how to play against Kyle Edmund and will have the confidence to beat him again. James Ward has nothing to lose here and he will just want to play his best tennis. This can be a very dangerous recipe for Kyle Edmund as Ward has much more experience than him.
This will be the second meeting between both players, with James Ward leading the head to head 1-0. James Ward and Kyle Edmund met in the first round of Sarasota in 2013, and Ward took home the victory in straight sets 6-3/6-4. Of course, at the time, Ward was the much better player and Edmund was really just getting started on the tour. Since then, their careers have gone in opposite directions. James Ward has gone down the rankings, whilst Edmund has gone up. If this was the middle of last year, I would probably say that Ward had a chance here, however, Edmund has found some form again this year and he will not want to let go of it.
Kyle Edmund to win.
