Andrea Pellegrino vs. Lorenzo Sonego - Italian Umbrian Open First Round
Tuesday, June 23 2020
Tennis is back in Italy with the beginning of the Italian Umbrian Open! Not many exciting players are participating in the tournament, except for the rising Italian star Lorenzo Sonego. Lorenzo Sonego has been great over the last year and he is going to look to get his form going again after the extremely long break. Sonego meets Andrea Pellegrino in what will be an interesting first-round match.
Andrea Pellegrino is not very well known throughout the tennis community and is more of a challenger player. Pellegrino is not without hope here though, as the Italian has nothing to lose and will want to make a good impression. Pellegrino knows that Sonego will not be at his best here and he can take advantage of the situation if Sonego does not play at his best. Will the extreme underdog be able to cause an upset and knock Lorenzo Sonego out here?
Lorenzo Sonego has been the second or third most exciting Italian player in the last year, behind Matteo Berrettini, and could be considered behind Jannik Sinner. Sonego is a very talented player who is able to create amazing topspin on the ball, especially on clay courts. The Italian is going to be one of the best players in tennis in a few years and he will want to get his momentum going again right here. Sonego has extreme potential and he will want to show us why he is to not be taken lightly on a tennis court.
This will be the third meeting between both players, with the head to head standing at 1-1. Lorenzo Sonego won their latest meeting in 2017 in straight sets and in my opinion, this match will go in a similar fashion. Sonego has drastically improved since 2017 and he will definitely know how to play against Andrea Pellegrino. This is Sonego's opportunity to come back to tennis after a long break, and show us why he is so exciting to watch. This match will be a straight forward victory for the world No.46, Lorenzo Sonego.
Lorenzo Sonego to win in Straight Sets.
