Matteo Berrettini came through a very solid opening round match against Go Soeda, beating the Japanese veteran in straight sets. Berrettini’s game is very well suited for these courts, especially as his service is extremely powerful and accurate. The court speed allows the power of Berrettini’s ball to push his opponents out of the court and now allow them to return many balls. Berrettini will want to at least reach where he did last year when he reached the semi-finals of the 2019 US Open. Berrettini has had a solid summer playing in many exhibition tournaments and even winning the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. Berrettini knows that he stands a solid chance here as only Djokovic is playing out of the Big 3.

Ugo Humbert had a solid start to 2020 and really looked like he was going to make a name for himself this year on the tour, however, since the coronavirus outbreak he has not been playing as much exhibition tennis as others here. However, this did not prevent Ugo Humbert from making easy work of his first-round match against Yuichi Sugita, winning in straight sets. Ugo Humbert is one of the more promising prospects in the world of tennis and I am sure that he will make a name for himself this year and next year.

Berrettini has a bigger serve, a better forehand, and a solid backhand compared to Humbert.
