Borna Coric vs. Christian Garin 9/14/20 Rome Open Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Borna Coric meets Christian Garin in the first round of the 2020 Rome Masters. Will Borna Coric bounce back after a tough loss in the US Open quarterfinals, or will the Chilean come through victorious here in Rome?

Christian Garin had a solid start to the year, playing his best tennis, especially on clay courts. Garin won in Buenos Aires this year beating home-crowd favourite Diego Schwartzman, but since then he has not played much due to the coronavirus outbreak. Garin did not have a very good US Open campaign and packed his bags early. The Chilean will have to work hard to get back into the form he was at before the suspension of the tour, but I am sure that in these next few tournaments we will see the Christian Garin we are used to see playing on a clay court.

Borna Coric was superb at the US Open, reaching his first career quarterfinal and beating the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas along the way. Coric seemed extremely composed and determined to fight for every point in his matches there, except for in the quarterfinal against eventual finalist, Alexander Zverev. Coric was a set and a break up in the match and seemed to be in complete control there. However, he eventually just seemed to play passively and allowed Zverev to get back into the match and dominate. Coric knew this after the fact and knows he needs to play better than that. I expect Coric to be extremely concentrated and determined to bounce back here in Rome.

This is going to be the third meeting between both players, with the head to head standing at 1-1. I think if this was earlier in the year, I would easily back Christian Garin to come through as he was in incredible form. However, Coric has gotten his body back to 100%, had an amazing US Open run, and is determined to show us all that he deserved to be considered amongst the names such as Tsitsipas and Zverev. I think it’s going to be a tight match, but one Borna Coric should come out victorious.
