It is the replay of their encounter in the 2019 Rome Open but this time in the final as Novak Djokovic meets Diego Schwartzman in what we already know is going to be ane extremely tight and mesmerizing encounter. Will Schwartzman continue to prove us wrong and lift the trophy here, or will Djokovic lift his 36th Masters 1000 trophy?

Diego Schwartzman came through an extremely tight semifinal encounter against Denis Shapovalov which went down to the wire on Sunday. Schwartzman looked on top in the first set, but the second and third set where much more evenly matched, with twists and turns in momentum continued throughout the match. Schwartzman was just returning the ball without fault and eventually outplayed the young Canadian who hit unforced errors. Schwartzman will be relieved to have come through that match and now will definitely be eyeing how to upset the World No.1, Novak Djokovic here.

Novak Djokovic saved two set points yesterday to take the first set against Casper Ruud who put on an extremely tough challenge to the No.1 seed. Djokovic had to save 7 break points off his racket to ensure Ruud did not win anything in that match, but if this was any other day, Ruud would have won that match. Ruud showed great determination and strength, however, in the end Djokovic’s experience came through and he was able to get this match done in straight sets. This was definitely Djokovic’s toughest test to date. here in Rome and he will be looking to get his tactics and game at a higher level as he meets Schwartzman.

These two have met 4 times before, with Djokovic leading the head to head 4-0. If you look closely at their matches, 2 were on hard courts and 2 on clay. The 2 matches on hard courts were won easily by Djokovic, however, the 2 on clay were always extremely tight and all went down to the wire. Schwartzman is going to be a threat here to Djokovic as he knows how to win points on clay and this match will go down to the wire in my opinion, but once again, Djokovic’s experience and increased energy as a result of spending less time on the court will allow him to come through here and lift the trophy.
