Alexander Bublik meets Christian Garin in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Hamburg Open in what is going to be a very tight match. Will Bublik's trickshot antics disrupt the baseline rallies of Garin, or will the clay-court specialist get the best of the Kazakh?
Alexander Bublik has been extremely solid here in Hamburg, winning all of his matches without really looking like he was going to lose any of them. Bublik has turned his game up a level as we are used to see him fade away in matches out of boredom and deconcentration many times. However, if Bublik continues to give it his all here in Hamburg, and in other tournaments, what is to say he can't win a title in the near future. Bublik has a lot of power both behind his serve and behind his forehand, and if he manages his game in the right way, he can rise up the rankings. This needs to be seen from Bublik on a consistent basis though for us to be confident on him.
Christian Garin just loves playing on clay and has shown us why playing on the red dirt is probably are probably the best surfaces in the tennis world. Garin is able to move rapidly around the court and he is able to dictate play from long baseline rallies. Garin's use of the drop shot is also impeccable and he can hurt his opponents if they try and play defensively against him far behind the baseline. Garin has already won a title on clay this year, in Buenos Aires, and he knows he can do it here in Hamburg if he is on top of his game.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and if this was on a hard court, we would slightly favour the Kazakh. However, we are on clay and Garin is something else on this surface. Bublik will find it tough to break down the Chilean here and I am afraid he will lose his focus on the game and will begin moaning about other things. Garin will be fully focused here and make the semifinals.
