World Number One Novak Djokovic faces Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan in the third round of the 2020 French Open. Does the lucky loser have what it takes to push the former champion? Or will Djokovic breeze into the next round as many expect?
Djokovic is always a firm title favorite in every tournament that he plays, and Roland Garros is no different. In fact he may be the leading contender here due to the question marks on Rafael Nadal's preparedness. He is yet to lose a completed match in 2020 (33-1) and has been in superb form so far here in Paris, losing only 10 games total in his first two matches which is an unbelievable statistic. He will surely be looking for another comfortable straight sets win so that he can conserve his energy for the seemingly inevitable clash with either Nadal or Dominic Thiem which lies ahead. He is perhaps the best returner in history and is even more of a threat to constantly break serve on this surface.
Lucky loser Galan of Colombia is playing the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time, and he is really taking advantage of his good fortune. Not known by many, he has scored upsets over Cameron Norrie and Tennys Sandgren to reach this far. He will have to play the match of his life to even make this match interesting but with no pressure on him that is certainly possible. He is a powerful player and both his backhand and forehand are weapons. However, he is playing possibly the best baseline player of all time so a huge challenge lies ahead.
Novak Djokovic will win this match in a hurry. His off-court controversies do not seem to be affecting his play and Galan is simply not good enough to pose much of a threat here. Djokovic is like a machine and will not give the Colombian many free points. It would be a huge surprise if there was any other result here. Novak Djokovic to win in straight sets.
