The 2018 French Open Champion, Simona Halep, takes on up and coming teenager, Iga Swiatek, in the fourth round of the 2020 French Open. Will Swiatek be able to cause another upset here in Paris, or will Halep's defensive capabilities ensure her qualification to the quarterfinals?
Iga Swiatek has been cruising through the pack here in Paris, showing us that she has a bright future in the Women's game. Swiatek beat Genie Bouchard in her third round encounter and she seemed in control of that match for the majority of it. Swiatek might be young, but she is sure confident in herself and she will definitely go far in the next few years if she continues to play this type of tennis. Swiatek will now face the toughest challenge this year at the French Open, Simona Halep. Swiatek lost to Halep last year at the French Open in a match were she did not even challenge, will this be more of the same?
Simona Halep is just in the best form of her career some might say. Since the return of tennis, Halep has been focusing on the clay court game and she has definitely been in top form. Just last week she won the Rome Masters and this week she is cruising through her opponents. Halep is definitely the favourite to win here in Paris and I find it hard to see anyone beating her. Even with Serena Williams and Viktoria Azarenka out, Halep is even more of a favourite here.
This is going to be the second meeting between these two players, with Simona Halep leading the head to head 1-0. They met last year here in Paris and Halep absolutely destroyed her in straight sets. I think more of the same is to come here this year. Although Swiatek is very talented and she is looking like a player who will have a bright future in the WTA tour, she is not on Halep's level. Simona Halep is on a mission to win here in Paris and I do not see her taking her focus away from that in any match. Simona Halep to win in straight sets.
