Fourth seed Sonia Kenin takes on Fiona Ferro in the fourth round at the 2020 French Open Championships. The match will take place on Monday October 5th, 2020. The American Kenin leads the head to head by 1 win to 0 but Ferro is playing at home and with a lot of confidence. Does she have what it takes to produce an upset?
Kenin has been fairly inconsistent here in Paris so far, having been stretched to three sets in her opening two matches. However she was very impressive in her third round match against Irina Bara, winning easily in straight sets. She has been aggressive for the most part but is good enough to change her game up depending on the situation and is equally comfortable being defensive. She can still improve here game in Paris, making her a scary opponent for any player. She will be very confident heading into this matchup knowing tht she has much more Grand Slam experience than her opponent.
Fiona Ferro has already produced her career best showing at the French Open. She has been in good form since the tour resumed, winning a title in Palermo. She impressively upset Elena Rybakina the 14th seed and will be full of confidence as well. She is very comfortable on clay and has a very powerful forehand which she will be trying to use to put pressure on her much higher ranked opponent. She is very aggressive and if she is striking the ball well and consistently she definitely has the type of game that can trouble the American.
I am going to pick Sofia Kenin to win this match. It probably won't be straightforward but Kenin has a lot of experience "on the big stage" and this will go a long way. Ferro has been very impressive here in Paris and of course has the crowd behind her but I don't think she has enough firepower to be able to trouble the world number 6. Kenin is slowly rounding into form here at the French Open and will be hoping for another confidence building performance as she aims for a maiden French Open title. Sofia Kenin to win.
