Sixth Seeded Canadian Milos Raonic faces American Jeffrey Wolf in the First Round of the 2020 St. Petersburg Open. The match will be played on Tuesday October 13th, 2020. Neither player played here last year and will be looking to get off to a good start. Can the young American upset the former top 5 player in Milos Raonic?
Milos Raonic has had a rough past few years with poor form and injuries but has shown flashes of his former self this year, reaching the Final in "Cincinnati" but then followed it up with disappointing results at the US Open and Roland Garros. He has had good results on indoor hard courts in his career, boasting a 91-47 record. His huge serve and groundstrokes will be a huge threat on these fast courts and he will be hoping for a deep run here in Russia. He will be very confident of winning this match against the young qualifier and will be eager to get his 2020 season back on track after a disappointing last few tournaments.
Jeffrey Wolf is ranked #123 which is near his career best #120. He has had some decent results this year, most notably at the US Open where he reached the third round, upsetting Guido Pella and Roberto Carballes Baena. He will be full of confidence after making it through the Qualifying Rounds but is in for a huge challenge here in the First Round. He has had some good results on indoor hard courts this year, but these have mainly come on the Challenger Tour. Wolf is a talented player with a solid all-court game but he does not have the tools necessary to bother a former top 5 player.
Milos Raonic will win this match in straight sets. He should have no problem dominating the American with his serve and should have a relatively easy day at the office. I think he is one of the favorites to win the title here if he serves well all tournament. Milos Raonic to win.
