British number one Dan Evans faces Jurij Rodionov of Austria in the Round of 16 at the 2020 Vienna Open. The match will take place on Thursday October 29th, 2020 at 9:00am EST. Evans has been in the form of his life in 2020 and Rodionov is a young local player looking to announce himself on the world scene. Who will advance to the Quarter-Finals?
Dan Evans has been playing some fantastic tennis this season and recently reached a career high of #28. He has had some mixed results recently though, with four consecutive First Round exits followed by a Semi-Final showing last week in Antwerp. He will be looking to continue that form and crack the top 20 by the end of the year. A good result this week will go a long way towards that and he could not have asked for a better path to the Quarter-Final. He was up in the First Round when Bedene retired, and his path was made even easier when Rodionov upset Denis Shapovalov. Evans will be looking to use his unorthodox game to frustrate his young opponent, with his variation and slices enough to trouble the very best.
Jurij Rodionov is one of the top up and coming teenagers on the ATP Tour today, and will be full of confidence after his huge upset win in the First Round over Shapovalov. He will expect to put on a show for his home crowd here in Austria and will surely fancy his chances against Evans. He possesses a huge baseline game, with powerful lefty groundstrokes that the eighth seeded Canadian had no answer for. His big serve will be a challenge for the British player and if he gets in a groove early can definitely cause some problems.
I am going with Dan Evans to win this match. Rodionov is a very talented player but Evans is too steady for him and he will certainly put the youngster off with his unique game style. Evans has had an extraordinary year thus far and expect it to continue here. Dan evans to win and advance to the Quarter-Finals here in Vienna.
