Second seeded hometown hero Dominic Thiem of Austria faces Chile's Cristian Garin in a hugely anticipated Round of 16 clash at the 2020 Vienna Open. The match will take place on Thursday October 29th, 2020 at 12:30pm EST. It is bound to be an exciting battle between two top 20 players that have never played each other before. Who will come out on top and advance to the Quarter-Finals?

Dominic Thiem has been in supreme form in 2020, winning his first Grand Slam title at the US Open. He disappointingly lost in the Quarter-Finals of the French Open where he was considered to be a top contender so will be looking to get back to his winning ways. He didn't look too convincing in his Opening Round win over the young Ukranian Vitaliy Sachko but will be happy to get some match practice under his belt while coming away with the victory. He has developed into an all-surface player, and his huge groundstrokes and footwork make him one of the hardest players to beat. He will be extra motivated to put in a good showing here at home where he is the defending champion.

His opponent Cristian Garin has also had a breakthrough year in 2020 winning two titles, both on clay. He was not expected to be a top contender on this surface but impressed in his opening round victory over Stan Warwinka. Like Thiem he has big groundstrokes and exceptional movement so this match is sure to be filled with long and exciting rallies. His main strengths are his footwork and his backhand but he struggles with his second serve which can spell danger against a big hitter like Thiem who surely will take advantage of any weak offerings.

I am going to go with Dominic Thiem to win this match. He does look a bit rusty as expected on this unfamiliar surface but he has too much quality for the Chilean. No doubt it will be a very close contest but Thiem should come away with the thrilling victory in two close sets. Dominic Thiem to advance to the Quarter-Finals.
