Hubert Hurkacz of Poland faces Moldovan Radu Albot in the First Round of the 2020 Paris Masters. The match will take place on Monday November 2nd, 2020 at 6:00am EST. Albot leads the head to head 1 match to 0. Both players enter this tournament in relatively poor form, who will get the much needed victory and advance to the Second Round?
Hubert Hurkacz has had a very disappointing 2020 season, not even coming close to replicating the success he had in 2019. Many people predicted that he would have made the jump into the top 15 by now but instead he has regressed, boasting a very disappointing 15-12 record this season. Despite his struggles, he is still ranked #31 and will be hoping to get his season back on track with a good week here in Paris. His huge serve and penetrating groundstrokes are massive weapons once he can keep his unforced error count low. He will enter this match as the favourite and will expect to advance here.
Radu Albot has also had a miserable year in 2020. He started the year ranked inside the top 50 but has struggled mightily, now ranked at #85. He has not won a single hard court main draw match all season and actually is in the draw as a lucky loser after losing to Norbot Gombos in the Qualifying Rounds. His main strengths are his speed and consistency from the baseline, but lacks the weapons to really trouble his opponent.
I expect Hubert Hurkacz to win this match with relative ease. Albot will struggle with his power and he should be able to hit through the Moldovan as long as he is able to focus and control his aggression. Both men are low on confidence so this match may not be pretty, but expect Hurkacz to advance.
