Daniil Medvedev meets Alex de Minaur in what is going to be a very tight and interesting encounter at the 2020 Paris Masters Third Round on Thursday, November 5th 2020. Will Medvedev get back to winning ways or will de Minaur cause the upset?
Alex de Minaur put on a very solid performance in the second round on Wednesday, beating the in-form Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, in straight sets. De Minaur was able to move Sonego around to court with relative ease and he was able to impose his stunning game. De Minaur was the favourite going into that match, but many including myself expected a very tight encounter. De Minaur proved us wrong, but can he do it again as he meets Daniil Medvedev who is also a player who loves to rally for long points and loves playing on his backhand for shot after shot.
Daniil Medvedev got the revenge for his loss last week to Kevin Anderson by beating the big serving South African, but not in the way he expected. The first set was extremely tight and went to a tiebreak, Medvedev led 5-2 in the tiebreak when Anderson called quits as his injury issues which saw him withdraw in the second set last week in the Vienna Open semifinal came back and prevented him from playing. Medvedev is definitely happy being in the third round, but I am sure he would've preferred dominating Kevin Anderson and getting the confidence levels in his game back to where they should be.
This is going to be the third meeting between both players and it going to be a tight one. Daniil Medvedev leads the head to head 2-0, however he has not been playing as solid as he was last year. De Minaur is a solid player who I believe will push Medvedev to his limits. Medvedev, however, has more things going the way for him as he has a better backhand, a bigger and sniper serve, and a better rallying game. If Medvedev is able to get on this match early, he should win it and make it to the quarterfinals.
