Seventh seeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic faces Italian Sefano Travaglia in the First Round of the first tournament of the year, the 2021 Antalya Open in Turkey. The match will be played on Thursday January 7th, 2021 at approximately 5:40am EST. The two players have never faced each other before but will both be motivated to get their campaigns off to a good start.
Currently ranked #42, Miomir Kecmanovic had a successful 2020 season, including his first ATP tournament win in Kitzbuhel. He also reached the Semi-Finals of the New York Open and Qatar Open. He will be full of confidence heading into the 2021 season after experiencing such a meteoric rise up the rankings in only his third year on tour at 21 years old. He has a very solid all around game, with no real weaknesses. He will surely be rested and refreshed after struggling towards the end of last season. He loves to dictate play from the baseline and if he can keep his unforced errors down he will fancy his chances against the lower-ranked Italian.
Stefano Travaglia is currently ranked #75 and also had a relatively successful season last year. After mainly having played on the Challenger circuit, he had some success on the ATP Tour in 2020 including a Third Round appearance at the French Open. He is a very good counterpuncher and will make things difficult for the sometimes erratic Kecmanovic. Travaglia has found most of his career success on clay, but will fancy his chances here due to his very hardworking and consistent style of play. He will be looking to stay extremely consistent and move Kecmanovic around, hoping that he will get frustrated and over hit the ball.
This has the potential to be an interesting match but I am going to pick Kecmanovic to win this match. He is maturing more and more every year and has gears that Travaglia simply does not. He will be fresh and ready to take his game to a new level in 2021. Miomir Kecmanovic to win.
