One of the lower ranked matches on the card here in the first round at the Delray Beach Open on Thursday, January 7th 2020, between Gianluca Mager and Ryan Harrison, but a very exciting and tight match to watch. Will it be Mager or Harrison to begin their 2021 season on a high?
Ryan Harrison is not a very well known player on the tennis circuit but will definitely be looking to make an impression on the ATP Tour this year. Harrison usually plays in challenger level tournaments and he does not have much experience on the main tour. Harrison, however, has a game suited for hard courts and he will aim to utilise all of his hard court skills here in a match against an opponent who is more used to playing on clay courts. Will Harrison cause an upset in the first round, or will he be packing his bags and potentially going back to the challenger level?
Gianluca Mager is also not very well known, but has had some incredible results and performances last year which put his name higher up in the tennis world. Mager most notably destroyed Dominic Thiem on the clay courts of Rio last year, Thiem's favourite surface, and he did it in style. Thiem might have not been playing his best tennis in that match, but that should not take away from the incredible performance by Mager. Mager will know that if he puts in the hard work and works on his mental strength, he can be a real contender in these smaller ATP 250 tournaments.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and I do not believe Ryan Harrison is an ATP Tour calibre player. Harrison is more suited for small challenger level tournaments where he might stand a chance of winning some here and there, but when it comes to the ATP Tour, it is a different level of player. Mager knows what its like to play the best in the world at the ATP Tour level, and he will make easy work of this first round match.
