American tennis prodigy, Tommy Paul, meets Nam JI-sung in the first round of the 2020 Delray Beach Open. Will Tommy Paul come out with his best tennis here in 2021, or will we have a shocking upset in our hands in the first tournament of the year?
Ji Sung Nam, ranked 268 in the world, has only played 4 ATP Tour level matches throughout his career, and at 27 years old, he has very little time left of his best tennis to give it his best shot to become a main player on the main tour. Nam is mainly a challenger level tournament player and he will have to play out of this world if he is to stand a chance not only in this tournament, but in any ATP Tournament he will ever play in. Nam will be hoping Tommy Paul has one of the worst performances of his career on Thursday in order to capitalize.
Tommy Paul improved drastically in 2020 and has become a mainstay on the ATP Tour as he has shown the ability to compete with some of the best tennis players in the world. Paul has great movement around the court, and he is able to dictate play with both his power, accuracy, and determination. Last year, Paul played some incredible matches against the likes of Stan Wawrinka, and Carper Ruud, and although many matches did not go in his favour, he showed us why he is thought of as the future of US tennis.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players and it is only going to end one way. Nam might be more experienced in terms of age, but Paul has played 54 matches on the ATP Tour, compared to 4 in Nam's case. I do not expect an upset here, and I strongly believe that if Paul plays his best tennis here, he will not only cruise through this first round match in straight sets, but he might be a contender for the title here at the 2020 Delray Beach Open. Tommy Paul to win in straight sets.
