Fourth seeded Aussie Alex De Minaur faces Bulgarian Adrian Andreev in the Round of 16 at the Antalya Open in Turkey. The match will take place on Saturday January 9th, 2021 at approximately 3:00am EST. The two players have never faced each other before. Who will make it through to the Quarterfinals?
Alex De Minaur is currently ranked number 23 and has established himself as one of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour. He is coming off a good 2020 season, highlighted by a Quarterfinal run at the US Open. He displayed flawless tennis in the First Round to defeat Malek Jaziri 6-1, 6-2. He is an elite mover on the court, and is solid on both sides. He has added a bit more aggressive to his game, and will be aiming to get his 2021 season off to a hot start to show the world that he is finally ready to make the next step and compete in the big tournaments.
Adrian Andreev is currently ranked 564 and has never faced an opponent of this caliber before. He came through the Qualifying Rounds and defeated Turkish Wild Card Marsel Ilhan in the First Round. It was an impressive performance from the youngster but he is facing an uphill battle here. He tends to struggle with his serve, which is quite weak. This could mean trouble against De Minaur, who is known as one of the top returners on tour. Andreev will have to play the match of his life here, and even that likely will not be enough against the in-form fourth seed.
Alex De Minaur will win this match comfortably. The only reasons that he may have struggled was lack of fitness and rust, but he clearly showed that neither of those are an issue with his dominant display against Jaziri. De Minaur is one of the favorites to win this tournament and seems to be in top form. Alex De Minaur to win in straight sets and progress to the Quarterfinals here in Antalya.
