It is a shocking quarter-final matchup here in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Delray Beach Open as world no.789, Christian Harrison, meets world no.101 on Monday, January 11th 2021. Will Harrison be able to backup such an incredible performance which saw him beat the No.1 seed, Cristian Garin, or will Mager put him in his place?
Gianluca Mager has not really had much tough competition here in the Delray Beach Open and he will definitely be working extremely hard to ensure he can make the semifinals here in the US. Mager knows how to play solid tennis, especially when playing as the underdog, which saw him beat players last year such as Dominic Thiem. Mager is an unorthodox player and he can definitely cause an upset here and there if his opponents underestimate him. However, Mager is now the favourite here, and will he be able to ensure he is not the one shocked here?
Christian Harrison shocked everyone on Saturday as he beat the No.1 seed, Cristian Garin, in straight sets without hesitation. Harrison had the entire crowd behind him and he had nothing to lose, giving him the confidence required to go for all of his shots and that payed off incredible dividends. Harrison will want to back up that solid performance and he definitely can if he continues to back himself, but will he be still riding that high, or will he have taken things as usual and put in the hard work to ensure he can back that victory.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and it is going to be a very tight one in my opinion. Gianluca Mager has more experience than Harrison and it ranked 688 places higher than him in the world rankings, but Harrison showed us on Saturday that he can beat someone ranked even higher than that than him. Harrison is playing at home, has the entire crowd backing him, and has the confidence to back his shots. I think Harrison will give everything in this match, whilst I am not sure Mager will be willing to do the same. Christian Harrison to win.
