It is going to be a very interesting matchup in the last quarterfinal here at the 2021 Delray Beach Open as Frances Tiafoe meets Cameron Norrie on Monday, January 11th 2021. Will Tiafoe be able to step up his game, or will Norrie continue dominating his opponents here in Florida?
Frances Tiafoe came through a tough 3-set match against Bjorn Fratangelo on Sunday, winning 6-4/3-6/6-1. Tiafoe began the match very wary, going down 4-2, however, he was quickly able to pickup his game and win the next 4 games to steal the first set. In the second set, Tiafoe let if guard down and Frantagelo strongly capitalised on this, winning 6-3 quickly. Tiafoe knew in the third he would have to give his all, and he did just that, dominating the majority of rallies and winning the set 6-1. Tiafoe cannot afford to have all these ups and downs as he did against Fratangelo when he meets Norrie on Monday.
Cameron Norrie has been dominating here in Delray Beach, not having lost a set in his first two matches. Norrie beat Adrian Mannarino in straight sets on Sunday in the battle of the lefties, and he will be filled with confidence as he meets Frances Tiafoe here in the quarterfinals. Norrie will want to have a shot at the title here as he knows that if he plays his best tennis, he can cause trouble for every single player left in the tournament. Will Norrie be able to continue this form?
This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and it is going to be a very interesting encounter. If this was a few years ago, I would have backed Tiafoe to get the job done here, however, Tiafoe has not shown his best tennis here, especially in that second round match. I think Norrie can cause Tiafoe many problems on Monday, especially with his lefty-game. Tiafoe does not have as much patience as he should when it comes to long rallies, and I think this will end up being his downfall on Monday against Norrie who can rally long and has the patience. Cameron Norrie to win.
