Great Ocean Road Open: Tennys Sandgren vs. John-Patrick Smith Tennis Prediction

Tennys Sandgren looks to begin his 2021 ATP Tour campaign as he takes on John-Patrick Smith in the first round of the Great Ocean Road Open. Will Sandgren begin the year in the same strong form as he did in 2020, or will John-Patrick Smith take on the US veteran and come out victorious?

Tennys Sandgren is a very interesting type of player, in the smaller tournaments, we do not always see him perform as well as we know he can perform, but when it comes to the big tournaments such as the Grand Slams, Tennys always puts on a show. Just last year in Australia, at the Australian Open, Tennys Sandgren put on incredible performances against the likes of Fabio Fognini, but most importantly Roger Federer. Sandgren nearly had the biggest win of his career, when he had 7 match points against Roger Federer, but unluckily lost the match in 5 sets. Sandgren loves playing on hard courts and he will definitely want to come out strong in 2021 to show us he is still here and he is still very strong.

John-Patrick Smith unfortunately stands no chance neither here nor at the Australian Open next week if he meets experienced veterans in the first round like Tennys Sandgren. Smith is ranked 317 in the world and he is still very inexperienced on the ATP Tour. John-Patrick Smith might give us some strong performances in a few years time, however, at the moment, his game is not where it should be, and is not even strong enough to compete on the Challenger Tour.

This is going to be the first meeting between both players. John-Patrick Smith might be more used to these courts as he is playing at home, however, Tennys Sandgren is the much more experiences and talented player. Sandgren has shown us he can compete with the best in the world, and he will want to make a rise in the rankings in 2021. To do so, I expect Sandgren to come out strong here at the Great Ocean Road Open and make his way to the second round.
