Great Ocean Road Open: Vasek Pospisil vs. Thiago Monteiro Tennis Prediction

Vasek Pospisil begins his 2021 ATP Tour season down under in Australia as he meets Thiago Monteiro in the first round of the 2021 Great Ocean Road Open. Will Pospisil have another superb season as he did in 2020, or will we see an upset on the cards in the first round here?

Vasek Pospisil had an amazing 2020 season, making the third round of the US Open, beating the likes of Milos Raonic, Roberto Bautista Agut, and performing throughout most tournaments he participated in during the season. Pospisil seems to be finding his best game, with his serve firing and being pin point accurate, and his forehand allowing him to hit winners consistently and overpowering his opponents. Pospisil knows that although he is reaching his 30s, he is peaking at the moment and he will definitely cause some upsets against higher ranked players, especially in the Grand Slams. Will Pospisil be a title contender here at the 2021 Great Ocean Road Open?

Thiago Monteiro has not had a superb start to the 2021 season, losing in the second round to John Isner in straight sets at the 2021 Delray Beach Open. Monteiro has the potential to be a real contender in ATP 250 tournaments, but unfortunately for him, it’s not going to be this early on in the year when big players are still competing in these tournaments to get themselves strongly prepared for the Australian Open. Thiago Monteiro will have to hope he meets a very underwhelming Pospisil in the first round here.

This is going to be the first meeting between both players. Both players are great in their own right, but going off of who had a much better 2020 season and who has the more evolved game, that is Vasek Pospisil in my mind. Pospisil has the experience, the talent, and the big swinging game which allows him to push opponents off the court and overpower his opponents. I expect Pospisil to make the later rounds here and perhaps even challenge for the title, but it will all begin here with a first round victory over Thiago Monteiro.
